Flashback Friday

Week 7 was very much a "normal" week of learning, so not too much to report in terms of highlights.

Monday-we completed an e-AsTTLe maths assessment (not a highlight for students, I'm sure!)
Tuesday- we had another great RAMS basketball training session
Friday- we all took part in a lovely school mass

One new thing to report is that we have started our poetry unit and students have been working hard on creating some very cool Diamante Poems this week.  Most students managed to post one of their poems to their blog, so please go and have a look and leave a comment as well.  Students are known to try their best when they know they have a captive audience!

Try writing another diamante poem using this helpful website and video!

Have a great weekend everybody

Caritas Raffle

Caritas Lenten Calendar

Thank you for your donations to Caritas during Lent.  We have so much to be grateful for, here in New Zealand, so let's choose kind and help others in need.

The class raffle will be drawn in the last week of school, so keeping looking for that bit of spare change or dig deep and bring in your week's pocket money!
Thanks Room 5, you are wonderful.

Flashback Friday

I hope everyone had a very lucky Friday the 13th today!

A few things to note for this week:
1.  Congratulations to the students who competed in the zone swim sports this week, you should all be extremely proud.
2.  Thank you once again to everyone who made a special effort to organise our Random Act of Kindness today.  Thank you for bringing in napkins, ribbons, flowers, etc., but also to everyone for making little cards with a kind message on them.

Room 5 handed out small gifts of flowers and chocolates to the parishioners who attended Friday mass this week. Their smiles, treats and kind words were very much appreciated by the parishioners.

3. This week in Literacy, our focus was on improving our "show, don't tell" writing skills. Students first worked in pairs and shared ideas on how to improve simple sentences. They came up with some amazing and creative examples. (Soon to be published on their blog)
The focus, effort and concentration in the room was amazing! You could hear a pin drop in the room when they went back to their seats to try and transfer this skill in their own memoir writing. Well done Room 5!

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Marston

Flashback Friday

Well without a doubt, the highlight for this week was the 2015 OLA Swim Sport Day!
Congratulations to everyone who got into the pool and had a go.  Whether or not you entered competitive or non-competitive events, you were amazing.  Yes, many were nervous before their race but everyone was smiling after their race as well.  You had positive attitudes, support for your peers and fantastic energy throughout the day.  Well done, I am very proud of you!
Congratulations to those of you who will be representing our school at zones next week.  We wish you the best of luck.
